Salsa is based on the Son dancing and unique styles of Afro-Caribbean music. Son is a distinct music style that originated from east Cuba during the 19th century. The word “salsa” itself means “spice” and is quite appropriate for the dance style that expresses the spicy blend of cultures from which it originated!
